Rupture of a Photon Dam

High-intensity photon beams exhibit behavior reminiscent of water flowing after a dam collapses. A paper from researcher of the lab has been selected as an "highlight" on the Physical Review Letter web site.

A Terahertz oscilloscope for studies of synchrotron radiation

PhLAM researchers recently developed a new type of "terahertz oscilloscope", and used it for recording Terahertz pulses emitted in synchrotron radiation facilities. The required extreme (...)

A mathematical model for understanding disruptions of the hepatic clock

The mechanisms which synchronize the hepatic clock to food timing are poorly understood, yet perturbations of this link are associated with diseases such as obesity or type 2 diabetes. Researchers from the Pasteur Institute of Lille and from the PhLAM laboratory propose to address this question though a mathematical approach, in a paper published in the 18 october issue of Cell Reports.

Portable Nano-Particle Emission Measurement System

The PEMs4Nano project (which started in October 1, 2016) addresses the development (based on current direct injection gasoline engines) of measurement procedures down to 10nm, providing a contribution to future regulation on particle emissions, in particular in real driving conditions. The activities planned in the project will also support the understanding, measurement and regulation of particle emissions below 23 nm (with the threshold of at least 10 nm)

A robust and flexible genetic pulse generator

A collaboration between physicists from KU Leuven and from Laboratory PhLAM has identified a small genetic circuit which behaves as a robust and flexible protein pulse generator. These results are published in Physical Review Letters.
